Indian School of Business-ISB, likely to extend PGP by six months

The news has it – ISB (Indian School of Business) may increase the duration of its PGP course by six months. The new program will include six months of industry internship.
Ahmedabad and IIM-Calcutta recently organized a two-day conference “MBA Education: The Road Ahead”, where 30+ business schools and recruiters participated to prepare a curriculum that can produce industry ready graduates. ISB has formed a committee and started the process of revising its curriculum in May 2011. Dishan Kamdar, senior associate dean of ISB, who is also the chairman of the curriculum review committee says that the committee consists of faculty members from diverse areas like finance, marketing, organizational behavior etc. The committee will also consult ISB’s founding schools like Wharton and Kellogg, recruiters, alumni and other B-Schools and accordingly change the school’s curriculum. “The review will help us to know whether there is a need for major reform or not. We have seen that large investment banks offer Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) only to interns. Our PGP course does not have internship. After the review, we may include internship as well and to accommodate it, we may increase PGP course duration by six months,” said Kamdar.
ISB may also add a subject on business ethics in the new curriculum. “Currently, students attend one-day conference about ethics, but in the MBA education, the subject has become important and we may add ethics as a subject,” he added.

Adi Godrej takes over as ISB chairman

Godrej group chief Adi Godrej, on April 2, took charge as the chairman of Indian School of Business (ISB). Making the announcement, Ajit Rangnekar, Dean, ISB said, “Adi has been closely associated with the ISB since its inception. ISB predicts 20% rise in placements 2011

Indian School of Business is hopeful that job offers will go up by 20% for its current batch graduating in April 2011. VK Menon, ISB’s director for Career Advancement Services, shared that apart from the firms in US and UK, companies from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and West Asia are showing very positive response.

In the Class 2010 there were 568 students – 346 companies came to the campus and made 541 offers. There were 60 international offers from 65 companies. The average international CTC was $1,29,275 while the average salaries increased 11 per cent. (For complete details on placement and more, please visit our ISB and IIM-A Comparison page)

This year, 571 students, there are already feelers from finance, consulting and marketing companies for taking more students. “Many jobs were lost in the last two years. The companies are now in a catch-up mode,” Menon said adding health sector and entrepreneurship looked strong this year. The conventional recruiters too were getting strong. “We expect to hear from at least 40 international companies in a week or two,” he said.

The placement will be a on a rolling basis, starting January 2011 and continuing till about June 2011.
